IPL Medical Therapy- What is it?

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light is a long-term solution for unwanted hair. However, did you know it’s also extremely effective at treating a number of skin concerns? If you’re suffering from acne, thread veins or pigmentation, read on because IPL may be the solution you’re looking for.

How does IPL work?

IPL works by filtering light, which means that only certain wavelengths of light will reach the skin. This is what makes IPL medical therapies able to treat a variety of skin concerns, because after filtering, the remaining light works on specific skin structures, achieving the desired results. Melanin in the hairs absorbs light during permanent hair reduction. This converts to heat, which damages the hair follicle and leaves it unable to support future hair growth.

IPL for acne

Many people are left feeling lost after unsuccessfully trying an array of creams and lotions to treat acne. IPL is a reliable option for people with acne and works in three different ways.

The first is that it destroys bacteria on the skin. Whilst the underlying causes of acne vary from person to person, the cysts and blemishes themselves cannot happen without an influx of acne-causing bacteria. By destroying these bacteria, IPL removes one of the main culprits of acne.

The second way that IPL targets acne is that it prevents the over-production of sebum. The acne-causing bacteria feed on the sebum, and the sebum itself is what gets trapped in the pores to cause spots, so by reducing the amount of sebum being produced, it becomes more difficult for spots to form.

Finally, IPL dramatically reduces inflammation and stimulates collagen production, which means that red, angry spots are minimised and scarring is reduced, for a greatly improved skin texture.

IPL for Vascular Lesions

Treat thread veins, rosacea and cherry angiomas with IPL using SkinBase medical therapies. Small blood vessels trapped near the surface of the skin are the cause of these skin issues and can have a really negative effect on body confidence. SkinBase IPL targets these issues by causing controlled damage to the blood vessels, which stimulates the body’s healing responses. When the body identifies the damaged vessels, it will naturally remove them, revealing healthy, flawless skin.

IPL for Pigmentation

Pigmentation from sun damage can take up to 20 years to appear, which means even if we start protecting skin now, we still have to deal with the damage done years ago. IPL is a great way of removing unwanted pigmentation; it breaks down the excess pigment in the skin, which stimulates the body’s healing response. This healing response removes the damaged pigment, leaving behind even-toned skin.

What are the other benefits of IPL?

IPL is a non-invasive and non-surgical treatment. There’s no downtime either, which means you can go straight back to your day without needing to recover. IPL also stimulates collagen production in the skin, which reduces wrinkles and leaves the skin looking more youthful and fresh.

Is dry or dehydrated skin making you look older than you are?

When it comes to our skin, the last thing that we all want is for it to make us look older than we actually are. You may be surprised to learn that one of the biggest factors for making your skin look older is it being dry or dehydrated.

But why is this, and what can you do to stop it?

Dry or dehydrated skin can make the skin appear more wrinkled

The reason that dry and dehydrated skin can appear more wrinkled is simply down to the fact that dry or dehydrated skin can appear even thinner and duller than skin that is well hydrated. This means the skin is likely to be low on collagen, therefore be saggy and sallow.

The importance of hydration for your skin

So, why is hydration so important for your skin? The skin is an organ, and just like any other organ in your body, it is made up of cells. Skin cells are made up of water, and without water, the skin cells are not going to be able to function as well as they can. Water is lost throughout your body each and every day, which means that you need to do your best to replace it throughout the day.

Skin cells that are lacking in water will appear in your skin by turning it dry, tight and flaky. Your skin will not only be more prone to wrinkling but will be less resilient too.

Here are our top tips to rehydrate the skin and look younger

There are a number of ways to rehydrate your skin and keep it looking its best. One of the simplest ways is to ensure that you drink plenty of water every day. You should aim for as much as 8 glasses, and alongside this, it is also a good idea to try and eat foods that have a high water content.

You are also going to want to use the right products for your skin. Exfoliating products can remove any of that pesky dry skin that is flaking and for a real burst of moisture afterwards, it is a great idea to follow up with a skin cream that contains hyaluronic acid.

Skin, just like plenty of other parts of your body, relies on water to be able to function properly. This means that if there is one part of your daily routine that you should definitely adhere to and make sure that you are on top of, it is drinking plenty of water and using the right products to give your skin a hydration boost.

Looking to improve blemishes or acne before your big day?

Preparing for your wedding can make you more aware of skin concerns than you ever have been before. Do you have unruly skin that often breaks out in spots? Or spots that won’t go away but don’t seem bad enough to go to the doctor about? How about scarring and pigmentation from a previous acne outbreak? Then you might want to look into our advanced IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments to improve blemish-prone skin. We offer Photorejuvenation and acne treatments with IPL that could help to turn your skin around in just a few sessions, to leave you with the complexion you want on your wedding day.

How does IPL treat acne?

For many people, IPL can completely transform spotty, oily, blemish-prone skin. By using specific light filters, IPL kills the bacteria that cause acne. This is an essential step in treating acne because those dreaded angry red spots occur when blocked pores become infected with bacteria that feed on sebum. It can be tricky to treat this with skincare products since it requires anti-bacterial agents, and when used in high concentrations, these can cause sensitivity and adverse reactions. IPL acne treatments will also help to suppress the sebaceous glands. This prevents the over-production of sebum, which is the second biggest contributing factor to the development of acne. Finally, IPL floods the skin with new collagen fibres, which stimulates the body’s healing response, to help active blemishes disappear without a trace.

What will Photorejuvenation do?

Acne scarring has a long-lasting impact on the self-esteem and confidence of acne sufferers. Even when the blemishes are gone, the remaining scars can take a long time to heal and usually remain very visible unless some kind of treatment is undertaken. Photorejuvenation is ideal for this; it targets melanin in the skin to break down pigmentation and then stimulates the body’s healing responses to remove it. This reduces the appearance of scarring, giving your skin a more even tone. But what about texture? Acne sufferers often have an uneven texture and rough areas where the skin hasn’t healed properly, and this is almost impossible to hide with makeup. Photorejuvenation will stimulate collagen production, which can help to smooth and improve blemish-prone skin texture and areas of scarring.

IPL Treatments are comfortable and non-invasive, with no downtime afterwards or any harsh chemicals. It can be difficult to find a treatment for acne or acne scarring that doesn’t involve strong exfoliating chemicals, and IPL is the perfect option for people looking for something that works with the skin, instead of against it. Many people even see results from the very first session, which is reassuring when you’re preparing for the big day. For brides-to-be (or grooms-to-be; acne can affect us all!) IPL has the added benefit of helping to firm the skin and reduce wrinkles ,thanks to the stimulation of collagen production. So by the time your wedding day arrives, your skin will be youthfully plumped too!

Don't despair! There is RF solution

As we age unfortunately so does our skin. Collagen, which helps keep our skin plump and firm, slows down production year on year causing skin to lose its elasticity and fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. But don’t despair! We have an exciting new treatment for you. Is SkinBase Radio Frequency treatment the answer? SkinBase RF is a radio frequency treatment that uses a warm wand to stimulate the production of collagen and realignment of elastin fibres deep within the skin. This will tighten and strengthen the skin and as a result, you regain a more youthful complexion.

Non-surgical solution

A non-surgical solution to ageing with no down-time. Radio Frequency is the perfect treatment for those image-conscious people looking to improve and maintain their appearance without surgery. SkinBase Radio Frequency remodels Collagen and elastin fibres resulting in a smoother, tighter appearance to the skin. It is extremely effective for skin tightening and firming loose or sagging skin. As you lie back and relax a warm wand is passed over the skin, working its magic with sweeping and circular motions.

Instant results

The energy waves used in Radio Frequency treatment prompt the cells within the skin to metabolise more effectively. This stimulates microcirculation and results in increased oxygen to the tissue. Higher oxygenation of tissues promotes healing and skin rejuvenation. Radio Frequency also accelerates elimination of toxins from the body by stimulating the lymphatic system. This aids the immune system in removing waste and debris from the body.

Long lasting results

Results from a course of SkinBase Radio Frequency are instant. Tightening of the elastin fibres occurs immediately, giving an instant visible result. Over the medium term, collagen production increases for up to 3 months after the course is completed. Long-term, results can last up to 2 years, therefore, making this treatment serious competition for Botox.

What is Retinol? Is it good for your skin?

There has been a lot of talk recently about the effectiveness of retinoids in skincare. Many dermatologists now believe that retinoids may be the key to anti-ageing. But what are they and how do they work?

Vitamin Power

All retinoids are vitamin A derivatives, but each retinoid works slightly differently. There are over 4,000 different retinoids, but only a few are used in anti-ageing skincare. The most popular retinoid for anti-ageing is retinol, and you’ll find this in many skincare creams and serums. Retinol is actually pure vitamin A, which means it is effective at low concentrations. However, retinol may be too potent for some skin types, so a vitamin A precursor called retinaldehyde is also often used. Once applied, Retinaldehyde is converted into vitamin A by the skin itself, which helps to avoid adverse reactions because the skin cannot be overloaded.

What do they actually do?

Retinoids work by drastically speeding up the rate of cell renewal in the skin. By shedding older cells, the newer, younger cells are pushed to the surface of the skin, leading to smoother, more even-toned skin. But retinoids do more than just enhance natural exfoliation; they speed up all skin cell renewal, which means they increase collagen production too, for firmer, less wrinkled skin. The way that retinoids work may seem quite simple, but the effects speak volumes.

Retinoid Tips and Tricks:

They are extremely light sensitive. Keep your products in a drawer or cupboard and wear them only at night so that the retinoids aren’t rendered inactive by sunlight.

Cosmetic versions can take a long time to start working, and you may need to persevere for several months before seeing changes.

If you’re concerned about sensitivity, start out with a less-potent retinoid and switch to a stronger one after a few weeks, to allow your skin to get used to it.

Your skin may start to peel and become red or dry. This is normal; start using nourishing skincare and gentle cleansers to support your skin’s renewal.

What exactly is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent, manual technique, that draws hair-like strokes on the top layer of the skin with a hyper-realistic result. It creates the most

natural looking eyebrows! On average, it last up to two years, but the result will be different on each person. It depends on the type of skin someone has, the home skincare regimen they use, and the activities they have on a daily basis. Being in the sun, using lightening skin-care products, some anti-aging products, or tanning booths will make the  pigment fade quicker.

How do you match the color of my natural eyebrows?

The color is determined according to the natural color of the hairs in the eyebrows and top of your head.

What is the biggest misconception about Microblading you encounter?

Most people think its a tattoo. It is sort of a tattoo, but not really. Its a manual technique and the ink used is different than tattoo ink. its not as deep, which makes it semi-permanent, and the ink is organic and synthetic which doesn’t have heavy metal. It also doesn’t turn red, nor does it spread under the skin, and it is vegan friendly.

How long do the results from a Microblading procedure last?

On average, it should last one to two years, but the result will be different on each person. It depends on the type of skin someone has, the home skincare regimen they use, and the activities they have on a daily basis. Being in the sun, using lightening skin care products, some anti-aging products, or tanning booths will make the pigment fade quicker.

What if i don’t like it? Is it Permanent?

My goal is to make the client 100 percent happy. I consult with the client for each step i take. There is a six-week mandatory touch-up appointment included in the price where they can express their concerns and make any changes at that time. In the case they already have had the touch-up and still are not happy, they will have to wait until it fades or a more drastic option would be laser removal.

importance of professional treatments

Q: Why is a professional facial important?

A: A facial is important every 4 to 6 weeks. Even though you’re at home and you do use a cleanser, an exfoliator, a toner, a serum, a moisturizer, an esthetician will be able to tell you what you did right and what you did wrong. It’s important to use good products. Let’s say you do come see me every 4 to 6 weeks. You see improvement but you want to see more dramatic results , I’d say, ‘Okay, lets talk about if you follow your regimen, your diet and life style modification.

CoolSculpting fat reduction

This fat reduction technique works through a method called Cryolipolysis for the selective targeting and freezing of the fatcellsin the treatment area. The procedure is performed using a small cooling device that is placed on the area to be treated for approximately 1-2 hours. After feeling some tightening and pressure on the treatment area initially, the area then becomes numb and nearly unnoticeable to the patient. Patients may work on their laptop, read, listen to music or even nap while the procedure takes place.

Benefits of ACE Massage Cupping™ Therapy

With a rich history of medical applications, how does ACE Massage Cupping™ fit into current medical and wellness practices and facilities?

Vacuum therapy is not an irritant to the skin or body. It draws the inflammation out from deep in the tissues to be released. The skin can turn red with strong movements, indicating that circulation has been brought to the surface. Application of liniments, analgesics, plant hydrosols and essential oil blends immediately after treatment will enable absorption of the product deep into the tissue.

Dermaplaning (dermaplane) is a form of manual exfoliation meant to be performed primarily on the face. Also known as levelling the skin or simply blading, the actual treatment is performed by our licensed aesthetician in a medical office and involves the use of a sterile surgical blade, known as a dermatome. We use highest quality blades in our office from Biomedics. The dermatome is held against taut skin at a 45-degree angle and stroked in a manner similar to shaving. This method removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells, leaving the skin smooth and supple.
